I began teaching private voice lessons in 2009 while a student at The Juilliard School. The next year, I taught as a supplementary after-school music teacher at Hyde Leadership Charter School in the Bronx as part of a fellowship between Juilliard and Chase Bank. During the summers of 2011-2014, I taught community voice lessons at the Chautauqua Institute.
My general approach to teaching is to begin with a physical warmup, followed by vocal exercises, and ending with repertoire. During this flow, I look and listen for unnecessary tension while building in the proper support for sustained, healthy, beautiful singing. The main points I address are breathing/airflow, body awareness/posture, resonance, and musicality. I build on what I learned from my current and former teachers, including Laura Brooks Rice, Marlena Malas, Michael Dean, Stephen King, Cynthia Hoffmann, Jeffrey Norris, and Robert Nims.
I have a Master's degree in Opera Performance from Curtis Institute of Music and a Bachelor's of Music degree from The Juilliard School. Currently, I am based in Stuttgart where I am a part of the opera ensemble at the Staatsoper Stuttgart.
